America Was

“Tomorrow is nothing, today is too late; the good lived yesterday.” – Marcus Aurelius

The big blue wave did come. Yes, it was inflation.  Yes, it was the war.  Yes, it was ICE.  Yes, it was Trump. But look deeper and you’ll see a cultural shift that has been moving away from Conservatives for decades.  A shift that has accelerated over the past 10 years.  The Republican base is shrinking.  Traditional Democrats are being replaced by a new generation.

Take away the current obstacles in front of the Republicans: inflation, war, ICE and Trump; and you’re still left with a massive gap between the Republican vision for America and that of the “new” Democrats.  For many younger voters along with those in the vast array of “marginalized” identity groups, what America was, wasn’t so great.  What “America was” has left them unable to afford what “was” the American Dream.  So, it’s time for a new dream and a different America.

Those who have lived the old dream and “made it” would love to keep it going, understandably so.  But every year thousands of them pass on.  And there are only hundreds, not thousands, stepping up to take their place while those with a new and different dream have more votes and louder voices.  Soon they will have more money.  What they choose to do with their votes, their voices and their money will determine what America will become tomorrow.
